House & Home

House & Home – Practice brief via briefbox.me

Brief was to design the branding for House & Home, an interior design company.

This is a work in progress project. I still have the stationery to design and also I want to expand the project more to have a website and magazine or brochure designed. The main brand and guidelines are done. More to follow.

The brief – ‘House & Home’ would like to work with a designer to create a new set of stationery, and to freshen up of their existing branding and identity. They would like a new business card, letterhead, envelope and invoice template, and they are also looking for a set of mini brand guidelines, including colour palettes, patterns, a small set of icons, and a guide to typography usage.

In terms of style, they are looking for a minimal, fresh and super clean feel. They take inspiration from French interior and restaurant design; so, see the inspiration images to see the style of design they are looking for, and then get creative with some concepts. This a large project; start with some research, and then build a moodboard to get a sense of direction.

Logo Development & Ideas

Brand development started off with research in to French interior and restaurant design. The colours, patterns, shapes, etc that I could be inspired by. This lead me on to some really nice clean be modern design with some nice muted colours.

This starting the development off a little backwards for me, beginning with a base of colours to use with the brand first.

Next up was to create a brand mark. The brief is pretty open without any constraints on what to have and not have. I still wanted the brand to have some meaning, but with a simple mark that would stand out. Most interior design companies that I researched (Via interiordesign.net) were simple and text only. Having a mark would make the brand versatile across multiple channels where space is tight.

After sketching out some ideas which you can see below. Working around the 2 h’s I want to symbolise the house and home. While researching interior design, google thrown me some architecture design and on the off chance a blue print marking for martials for metal, glass and other materials for architecture blueprints. The markings of the walls inspired me to have this on mark. One h as the house the other h as the home.

I created the background ”H with lines to symbolise the house in a architecture blueprint markings. And main lower case ‘h’ to symbolise the home, which is House & Home main business, interior design.

My vision for the brand is to have the House ‘H’ would always be muted to background and Home ‘h’ at the front and to be coloured to stand out. Or maybe have the Home ‘h’ to be patterned or textured to fabrics and textures of furniture or interior walls, just more ideas I might play with later on.
